School outreach - working with your child in their learning setting

Supporting young people where they feel safe

For many children and young people, school is where they spend most of their day — and it can also be where challenges show up most strongly. School outreach counselling brings support directly to the student in a familiar environment, reducing barriers and helping them feel more comfortable and understood.

We offer on‑site counselling sessions in schools across Melbourne’s north-east, providing gentle, person‑centred support for NDIS participants who benefit from having therapy in a place that feels predictable and accessible.

Why school‑based counselling helps

School outreach can be especially supportive for children and young people who experience:

  • Anxiety or overwhelm

  • School avoidance or difficulty attending

  • Emotional regulation challenges

  • Social or peer difficulties

  • Transitions between classes, year levels, or schools

  • Stress related to learning, expectations, or sensory environments

Meeting students where they already are helps reduce pressure, build trust, and support consistent engagement.

How school outreach works

Lauren collaborates with families, support coordinators, and school wellbeing teams to make the process smooth and respectful.

A typical outreach session includes:

  • A quiet, private space provided by the school

  • A 1:1 counselling session tailored to the client’s needs

  • A strengths‑based, trauma‑informed approach

  • Optional check‑ins with wellbeing staff (with consent)

  • Clear communication with families and support teams

Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly, or scheduled around the client’s capacity and goals.

Benefits for families

  • No travel or transport required

  • Reduced disruption to routines

  • Increased consistency for young people who struggle with transitions

  • Support that fits naturally into the school day

  • A counsellor who understands NDIS goals and reporting requirements

Benefits for schools

  • Improved student engagement and emotional regulation

  • Reduced behavioural incidents linked to stress or overwhelm

  • A collaborative wellbeing partnership

  • Support for students who may not otherwise access counselling

  • Clear communication and professional boundaries

Organising school outreach

The process is straightforward:

  1. Contact Lauren to discuss your child’s needs and goals.

  2. Provide consent for Lauren to liaise with the school.

  3. Lauren will connect with the school’s wellbeing team or other key contact to arrange a suitable space and time.

  4. Sessions begin — with ongoing communication to ensure the support remains helpful and aligned with NDIS goals.
